Chapter 3: A New Life

Two days had passed since Maria drank the cure Sonica had so carefully crafted. The silence of the Ark was broken one morning by the soft sound of Maria stirring. Slowly, her eyes fluttered open, and she took in the familiar surroundings of her room. For the first time in a long while, she felt... different.

Sonica, who had been waiting by her bedside, quickly approached. “How are you feeling?” she asked, concern still lingering in her voice. Maria paused, her thoughts racing as she took stock of her body. She felt... incredible.

“I feel... energised. Refreshed,” Maria said, a smile spreading across her face. “I’ve never felt like this before.”

Sonica, checking Maria's condition thoroughly, nodded with a satisfied smile. “Good news Maria, you’re cured.”. A smile that’s warm and calming shows on Sonica’s face full of pride that she’s able to cure Maria as she promised.

At that moment, Dr. Gerald, who had been pacing anxiously outside, hurried into the room, clearly concerned. He immediately set to work, running a series of tests on Maria’s condition. When the results came in, he was left speechless. His granddaughter was truly cured. A wave of relief washed over him, and in a moment of pure joy, he embraced Maria tightly.

Tears of happiness filled his eyes as he held her. “You’re finally better,” he whispered, overjoyed that the cure had worked. He embraced his granddaughter with much relief and happiness he never felt before. A miracle has been given.

Maria, equally thrilled, looked at Sonica and pulled her into a grateful hug. “Thank you. You’ve saved my life.” Sonica could only smile and said “Your welcome”, quietly.

Shadow, who had been standing quietly in the corner, approached Sonica with a rare show of warmth. He extended his hand to her, a silent gesture of gratitude. Sonica, smiling brightly, shook his hand in return, her heart swelling with appreciation.

With a new breath of life in the Ark, Maria offered to share more knowledge to Sonica about the current timeline, eager to help Sonica for the life-saving cure she had provided and hoping to get her home. However, Sonica insisted that Maria focus on rebuilding her strength first before helping others. Shadow agreed on this. Maria pouted at first, but eventually she relented as she realised she was in no condition until she gained back her strength.

In the days that followed, Maria focused on rebuilding her strength, with Shadow by her side, as she prepared for her eventual return to Earth. Though she knew it would take time, she found solace in the thought that she could spend more time with her grandfather, Shadow, and even Sonica on the Ark. Without realizing it, three years had passed since Sonica's arrival on the Ark.

During these times, Maria and Shadow longed to understand Sonica, but she spent most of her time working closely with Dr. Gerald because she is trying to distract herself from her sadness at the chance of her not being able to go home. The doctor was eager to learn from Sonica’s vast knowledge, hoping that it could help humanity find better ways to combat diseases. Sonica, ever the altruist, readily accepted this new responsibility, knowing that it would help save countless lives.

Sonica does question the doctor about his surname being “Robotnik” and asks him if he’s familiar with someone called Ivo Robotnik. Surprised, the Doctor mentioned that Ivo is the name of his grandson. Even more surprised, Sonica finally realised that her hunch was right about him. But she decided to keep this secret as telling him the truth may affect the future and even now her existence there is already affecting time as it is.

As she worked alongside Dr. Gerald, Maria and Shadow often watched Sonica from afar. Slowly but surely, Shadow found himself drawn to her—her determination, her good heart, and her unwavering commitment to helping others reminded him so much of Maria’s own spirit. Secretly, even though both Maria and Shadow promised to help Sonica find a way home, they were also hoping that Sonica would choose to stay with them. But the thought would end up as a betrayal to her promise and therefore, they chose to keep this wish to themselves.

Each evening, after her work was done, Sonica would retreat to the observation deck. There, surrounded by the stars, she would sit in solitude, lost in her thoughts. She often talked to herself, wondering if she’ll ever find a way home. It was a bittersweet moment of vulnerability, and more often than not, Sonica found herself crying alone under the vast, lonely sky.

Shadow, though unsure of how to approach her, couldn’t help but follow her to the observatory from time to time, watching her quietly from a distance. Maria, noticing Shadow’s growing curiosity, decided to help him understand his feelings. “You’re not great at talking to girls, are you?” she teased. Shadow glared at her, unamused. "I’m not making fun of you," Maria added with a smile, "I’m just saying you need some help."

At first, Shadow found their conversations awkward. He had never spoken to anyone alone like this before—especially someone like Sonica. But one quiet night, when he found Sonica sitting alone in the observatory with tears streaming down her face, something inside him stirred.

He hesitated for only a moment before stepping forward.

“Are you alright?” he asked softly.

Startled, Sonica quickly wiped at her tears and forced a shaky smile.

“Shadow?! Wh—what are you doing here? It’s late.”

“I know,” he replied, his voice low. “But… I got worried.”

Her heart twinged at his concern, but the heaviness in her chest made her retreat into herself.

“I just… need some time alone.”

“You’ve been taking too much alone time for a while now. I’m not leaving,” Shadow said firmly. “Not like this.” After a pause, he added, “I have to ask—why here? I see you come to this place every night. Is there something special about it?”

Sonica exhaled deeply, giving him a half-hearted look.

“You’re never gonna leave, are you?”

He shook his head looking at Sonica with a solemn look on his face.

Feeling defeated with exhaustion, Sonica answered weakly “I come here because… no matter where we are, no matter the timeline, the world… even in dreams… the night sky never changes. It’s always the same. It’s the only thing that helps me cope. It reminds me of home—of what I miss. It helps me forget that I’m… lost. And alone. It hasn’t been easy… for me.”

Shadow stayed silent, listening to the ache in her words.

“I’m sorry,” he said at last. “I wish I could do more… but I’m here. If you need a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen… anything I can do to help you.”

She gave a small, bitter scoff.

“You don’t have to. You barely know me.”

“I want to,” Shadow answered, his voice steady, his gaze unwavering. “You don’t have to put on a brave face every day for anyone’s sake. You have feelings too, don’t you? You don’t have to suffer alone. You’re…not alone—you have Maria, the Doctor, the scientists on the ARK… and me. We’re all here for you. And… I know what it’s like to feel lost. I felt it too, when I was first created. Maria helped me through it. Let me help you. It’s the least I can do—for you.”

He sat beside her, the concern in his eyes softening into quiet care.

Sonica’s breath wavered. Slowly, she began to speak about how much she missed home. Her voice trembled, her words breaking, until she unconsciously leaned against him, seeking warmth and comfort. Before she realized it, tears were spilling down her cheeks again—this time into his shoulder.

Shadow, startled by the sudden closeness, didn’t pull away. Instead, he wrapped an arm around her, holding her gently, offering silent strength until her sobs faded and sleep claimed her.

When she finally went still, Shadow carefully lifted her into his arms and carried her to Maria’s room. He settled her onto the bed near Maria, staying nearby to watch over her until morning, making sure she wouldn’t wake up to loneliness again.

From that night on, something shifted between them. Shadow found himself drawn to Sonica in ways he couldn’t quite explain. At first, he thought it was simply the bond of friendship, but the more time they spent together, the more he realized it was something deeper.

Confused by these feelings, Shadow turned to Maria for guidance. “What’s happening to me?” he asked, his voice filled with uncertainty saying what he felt about Sonica. Maria, always perceptive, smiled knowingly. “What you’re feeling is called affection, or love,” she explained gently. “But Shadow, it’s not like the love you have for me. This is different. This is more intimate, special.”

Shadow was taken aback by her words, unsure of what to make of them. He hadn’t expected this kind of emotional complexity. He had always felt something for Maria, but this was different. It was more personal, more intense. Shadow then asked what she meant by intimate and “special”.

With Maria’s help, Shadow slowly began to understand these new emotions he was experiencing. And as he did, he realised he wanted to be close to Sonica, to help her, and to be there for her. He admired her strength and determination, and over time, he came to cherish the moments they spent together.

One evening, as Sonica sat once again on the observation deck, pondering her future and missing her friends and home, Shadow joined her with Maria in the background offering her support. They spoke quietly, and with a gentle smile, Sonica thanked him for his support. In a moment of deep gratitude, Sonica leaned forward and kissed Shadow softly on the cheek, a gesture of affection that surprised both of them. Maria was stunned but couldn’t help but smile widely and happily for them.

Shadow’s face turned a deep shade of red, and before he could fully comprehend what had just happened, he quickly turned and ran away, his heart racing. He had never felt such a sensation before, and it left him feeling both confused and exhilarated. Sonica, watching him run off, was left standing alone, unsure of what had just transpired between them. Maria, who was watching this event occur, quickly chases after Shadow.

Back to Sonica, she finally understood.

The realization settled into her gently, undeniable and warm. Somewhere along the way—quietly, without announcement—her heart had changed. The feelings she carried for Shadow were no longer distant or undefined. They were real.

She pressed her hands to her chest, feeling her heartbeat steady and sure, as if her heart itself was confirming what her mind had only just caught up to.

Lifting her gaze, she looked once more at the vast, star-filled sky above her. The universe felt softer somehow, less distant.

“So this is how Dad felt about Mom…” she murmured to herself. Her voice was barely a whisper, filled with wonder rather than uncertainty. “It’s… pleasant.”

A peaceful smile curved across her face—unforced, genuine, unguarded.

For the first time in her life, Sonica didn’t just understand love as an idea or an observation. She felt it.

And in that quiet moment at the star-filled observatory, Sonica found something she never knew she was missing—love, warm and steady, taking root in her heart.

But one thing was certain—things between her and Shadow were changing, and their journey together was just beginning.

Chapter 2 - The Space Colony Ark

When Sonica arrived in Maria’s bedroom, the warmth of the room’s quiet atmosphere helped calm her down after the events that happened earlier. Maria, sensing Sonica’s unease, finally introduced herself and Shadow. "My name is Maria, and this grumpy dark person is Shadow, right now we’re on the Space Colony Ark," she explained softly, hoping to ease some of Sonica’s tension. Sonica, still adjusting to the reality of her situation, gave a brief nod and introduced herself in return. Excitedly, she was curious how Sonica seemingly being a similar species to Shadow and in appearance and asked where she’s from. Not completely trusting Maria but at the same time unsure on where she is, the only answer she could give was “All I can say is that, my home is not here”.

Apart from that, Maria, ever observant, quickly noticed Sonica's calm, precise demeanor and couldn't help but ask, “Just wondering, are you a doctor by any chance?”

Sonica, still wary but willing to be honest, simply nodded.

A brief silence hung in the air before Sonica spoke again, her mind still on Maria’s illness. "I can help cure you," she offered quietly, her voice carrying both certainty and a touch of concern. "But, I need-”

The offer caught both Maria and Shadow off guard. Maria’s eyes widened with hope, and Shadow’s expression softened just slightly—he was protective, but even he couldn’t ignore the possibility of saving Maria. Before Sonica could even finish her sentence, Maria responded with hope, “Is it true?? You have a cure for my condition??! ” Maria excitedly said this while clasping both of Sonica’s hands with great enthusiasm. Sonica, surprised, could only nod to Maria’s question.

Maria, filled with newfound excitement, immediately called for her grandfather, Dr. Gerald Robotnik, to come to the room. "Grandfather, I want you to meet someone! Come to my room!," she said eagerly, leaving Sonica unable to get the information she needed to understand her situation. Before long, Dr. Gerald arrived, looking puzzled yet intrigued. The sight of Sonica, a hedgehog with certain similarities to Shadow, only deepened his curiosity.

“Another hedgehog?” Dr. Gerald exclaimed, immediately introducing himself as he stepped forward.

Sonica stiffened the moment she saw him.

For an instant, her breath caught—his features were unmistakably familiar. The sharp profile, the posture, the eyes. He looked too much like Eggman. Her instincts flared, putting her on guard at once.

But she knew better.

This was the past. This man was not the Eggman she knew.

…Yet he was almost certainly connected.

Sonica kept that realisation to herself, carefully schooling her expression, though her body remained tense and alert.

Dr. Gerald, meanwhile, was utterly captivated—by Sonica’s sudden appearance, and more importantly, by her calm assertion that she possessed knowledge of a possible cure for Maria.

“Where did you come from?” he asked eagerly. “And how did you get here?”

The room buzzed with excitement, voices overlapping, expectations rising too quickly. Sonica felt the weight of it all pressing in, her chest tightening under the attention.

She raised her voice just enough to cut through the noise.

“Look,” she said firmly, though not unkindly, “I understand why you’re excited. But I can’t help anyone if I don’t even understand what’s happened to me—how I ended up here, or why.”

Dr. Gerald froze.

The realization hit him immediately. He straightened, visibly calming himself, his tone softening as he nodded.

“You’re right,” he said. “Forgive me. Let’s slow down.”

Nearby, Maria’s expression fell. Guilt flickered across her face as she stepped forward.

“I’m sorry,” Maria said softly. “We didn’t mean to overwhelm you… I didn’t.”

Sonica looked at her, then briefly turned away, her mind racing—analyzing, calculating, grounding herself. After a quiet breath, she faced them again.

“In my timeline,” Sonica finally said, her voice steady and resolute, “I was the one who developed the cure for NIDS.”

The revelation struck Dr. Gerald like a bolt of lightning. "You... you know how to cure Maria?" His voice was filled with hope and disbelief.

Sonica, moved by the doctor’s desperation yet touched by his devotion to Maria, gave a slow, reassuring nod.

Sonica stepped toward the whiteboard in Maria’s room. "I can give you the formula—the key to cure her."

Dr. Gerald’s eyes lit up, hope surging through him—only for Sonica to raise her hand, stopping him mid-breath.

"But first," she continued, her tone gentle but firm, "I need to understand my surroundings. Can I at least learn about this… place before I give you the cure?". Sonica dislikes this approach as she usually helps people without anything in return, however since she is in an unfamiliar territory, or worse, different timeline, she needs something to help herself get her bearings before she can help anyone else.

She took a steadying breath and explained her request: a book, a database, anything that could teach her about this era’s systems, its flora and fauna—everything she could use to fully grasp the state of the world. Without hesitation, Dr. Gerald granted her full access to his public databases.

"You can study here," Maria offered softly. "It’ll be away from prying eyes."

Sonica accepted with a grateful nod, welcoming the privacy.

As she sifted through the data, Shadow’s voice broke the quiet. "What are you looking for?"

"A clue," she answered without looking up. "A way home. And… maybe a way to truly help your friend."

Shadow frowned. "You promised to cure Maria if we gave you information. Right?"

Sonica’s lips curved into a faint smile. "Calm down. I’m not going back on my word. I just want to see if I can create an alternative to the cure I developed where I’m from. So relax—I’ll cure her. You have my word."

Her smile lingered for a moment, softening when she caught the obvious concern in his eyes for Maria. Then she returned to her studies.

An hour passed. The more she analyzed the data, the heavier her chest felt. With the technology available in this timeline, the chances of returning home seemed painfully slim—perhaps impossible. The thought of never seeing her friends or family again clawed at her heart.

Despair began to creep in… until her gaze shifted to Maria, resting quietly with Shadow by her side, just seeing her smile weakly talking to Shadow about a possible cure. Then, Sonica remembered her promise—and what Sonic would have done in her place. She straightened, resolved hardening.

Turning to Dr. Gerald, she said with quiet determination, she heads to the whiteboard and begins to write down a very advanced formula on board. Dr Gerald quickly asked her what she was writing, Sonica answered with only a few words that would forever change him “The cure for your granddaughter”.

But as she finished, Sonica paused. "This world is a bit different from where I’m from," she murmured, "so some of these ingredients might not even exist here. I’ll need to find substitutes and based on your database I analysed, these will do"

Dr. Gerald, while understanding, knew the task ahead would be difficult. "This will take time," he said thoughtfully. "In the meantime, Sonica, lay low. Enjoy your stay here on the Ark. We’ll gather what we need."

Over the following month, Sonica spent most of her days either in the observatory or quietly seated in Maria’s room. Hours slipped by as she lost herself in research and reflection—studying the timeline she now found herself trapped in, piecing together what had gone wrong, and wondering if there was any path that could lead her back home. Each discovery brought new questions, and with them, the lingering ache of uncertainty for the friends she had been torn away from.

During that same time, Maria and Shadow found themselves drawn into Sonica’s orbit.

Maria, gentle and open-hearted as ever, made sincere efforts to understand her—asking careful questions, listening without judgment, offering warmth without expectation. Shadow, on the other hand, observed from a distance at first. His curiosity was quiet but constant, stirred by Sonica’s familiar appearance and the subtle similarities in their demeanor. He watched her movements, her silences, the way she carried herself—recognising something deeply kindred.

The first weeks were not easy. Sonica remained guarded, her trust slow to form, shaped by experience and loss. But gradually—day by day—she began to see the truth of them. Maria’s kindness was genuine, unwavering. And behind Shadow’s hardened exterior was a restrained compassion, carefully protected but undeniably real.

Little by little, Sonica allowed herself to open up.

In shared conversations, quiet moments, and unspoken understanding, a bond of mutual respect slowly took root between the three of them. They understood one another in ways Sonica hadn’t expected—and perhaps hadn’t believed possible.

And somewhere along the way, the Ark—once cold, sterile, and unfamiliar—began to feel… warmer. Almost like home.

Finally, the day came when Dr. Gerald and his team returned with all the necessary ingredients for the cure. With urgency in his voice, Dr. Gerald called for Sonica. "It’s time," he said, eager to finally see the cure completed. Dr Gerald then guided Sonica to his laboratory to begin concocting the cure for Maria.

Sonica, with Maria and Shadow by her side wishing to witness this, began the delicate process of creating the cure. Every step was measured, calculated, and precise. As she added the final ingredient, something unexpected happened—Sonica realised she could not use any form of chaos energy to complete the cure. Without her chaos energy, the entire concoction was useless.

Frustration boiled inside Sonica, and she paused, unsure of how to proceed. Shadow, sensing her defeat, approached her. "Why did you stop?" he asked, his voice more gentle than usual.

Sonica, avoiding his gaze, replied quietly, "The key ingredient is a tricky one to obtain. It requires a small hint of…chaos energy." She feared disappointing him, not knowing how to explain her dilemma.

Then, for the first time since Sonica had arrived, Shadow smiled—just slightly, but enough to show a crack in his stoic demeanor. "I have chaos energy I can spare," he said, a hint of pride in his voice. "I would be glad to provide it if it means saving Maria."

Sonica, both surprised and relieved, nodded. She carefully extracted a small amount of chaos energy from Shadow’s paws holding it gently, but the energy was too aggressive. Her hands moved with practiced precision as she used her control abilities to reshape the energy, refining it until it was calm enough to integrate into the cure. This impressed Dr Gerald on her abilities to manipulate chaos energy.

With the chaos energy now properly adjusted, Sonica added it to the mix. The cure was finally complete.

The cure for NIDS completed

Sonica, though exhausted, handed the cure to Maria. "Drink it," she instructed softly. "This will cure you."

Maria’s excitement was palpable, but Dr. Gerald, ever the cautious scientist, quickly intervened. "We need to inspect it first," he said, holding the cure up to the light, studying its purity. After a moment, he turned to Sonica, his eyes filled with admiration. "This is extraordinary," he said. "How did you manage to create such a cure?"

Sonica, her voice steady but filled with quiet determination, responded, "Lets just say, loss is a powerful motivator"

Dr. Gerald understood more than she had said. The pain in her eyes, the sincerity in her tone, told him enough. He chose not to press further—yet doubt still lingered. This was his granddaughter. He could not afford blind faith.

Sonica seemed to sense his hesitation.

“Doctor,” she said firmly, “I am a doctor myself. I took an oath to save lives, not end them. And if I truly meant harm, why would I waste my time fabricating a cure when I’m already at a disadvantage here?” Her words struck their mark.

Dr. Gerald let out a short, thoughtful chuckle. “That… is a fair point.” He nodded slowly. “Very well. You’ve convinced me.”

He handed the vial to Maria.

Maria accepted it eagerly, offering Sonica a hopeful smile before drinking the cure in one motion. For a brief second, nothing happened—

Then her body stiffened.

She swayed, her breath catching, before collapsing into unconsciousness.

“Maria!” Shadow surged forward, panic flashing into fury. He spun on Sonica, voice shaking with fear and anger. “What did you do?!”

Sonica didn’t hesitate. She pushed past him, kneeling beside Maria.

“Calm down, Shadow,” she said sharply but controlled. “This is a normal reaction.”

He froze.

“She needs rest while the cure takes effect,” Sonica continued, her tone steady. “Most of my treatments induce immediate unconsciousness—it forces the body into recovery mode. This is part of the process.”

Dr. Gerald, though visibly shaken, recognized the truth in her words. He straightened quickly.

“We’ll need to get her to her room quickly to let her rest then!” Maria was carried away, settled into bed under constant observation. Days passed with her remaining in a deep, unbroken sleep. Sonica and Dr Gerald monitored her condition closely, while Shadow waited in tense silence, every hour stretching longer than the last.

Later, Sonica sat beside Shadow in Maria’s room. The quiet hum of the Ark filled the air. She watched him carefully—his rigid posture, his clenched fists, the fear he tried so desperately to hide as he watched over Maria.

“She’ll be okay,” Sonica said softly. “It’s just a matter of time.”

Shadow finally looked at her, his expression softened, eyes no longer sharp with accusation.

“…Thank you,” he said quietly. “And… I’m sorry. For earlier.”

Sonica offered a small, reassuring smile.

“Don’t worry about it,” she replied gently. “It’s far from the worst reaction I’ve had as a doctor.”

Shadow huffed a quiet breath, tension easing just a little.

As the Ark drifted silently through space, Sonica found herself reflecting on the path that had led her here—on the bonds she had formed in this unfamiliar time, and the uncertain future that awaited her.

But for now, at least, she had saved Maria.

And in doing so, she had found purpose again— even in a place that was never meant to be home.

Chapter 1 - The event that Started it all

It was another typical day for Sonic and his friends as they made their way to one of Dr. Eggman’s lairs on Mobius, ready to foil yet another of his evil schemes. But this time, as they neared the lair, they noticed something that instantly caught their attention—an ominous machine was attached to the Master Emerald. Concern swept through the group as they realized this could be another one of Eggman’s devious plans. Determined to stop him, they wasted no time and prepared to launch their attack.

Just as they were about to strike, Eggman activated the machine, triggering a violent reaction. In an instant, a rift tore open in space and time, sending Sonic, his friends, and anyone in the vicinity hurtling through it. They were pulled into a strange, chaotic vortex that transported them not just across Mobius but to another time—an era before the world was even called Mobius. While the rest of the group was sent into a “Past-Present timeline,” something unexpected happened to Sonica. She was flung across time, landing on an unfamiliar territory.

When Sonica regained her bearings, she found herself standing in a vast, sterile environment, unfamiliar and foreign. Almost immediately, she was met by a wary figure—Shadow the Hedgehog. His sharp, red eyes studied her with suspicion, and without hesitation, he demanded an explanation for her sudden and strange arrival. Confused, Sonica remained silent, sizing up Shadow, her instincts telling her to be cautious as she observed his every move.

Sonica and Shadow’s first encounter on the Ark 53 years ago

Before another word could be spoken by Shadow, a soft voice called out, and Maria Robotnik entered the scene. Shadow instinctively stepped in front of Maria, protecting her from Sonica’s unfamiliar presence. It was clear that Shadow didn’t trust Sonica, but Maria, calm and gentle, stepped forward and offered a peaceful presence. As the two exchanged glances, Sonica’s medical device beeped in response to the mention of a “critically ill” life form nearby. Intrigued and concerned, Sonica quickly surveyed her surroundings, her thoughts racing as she tried to figure out who the device had detected.

Before she could investigate further, Maria suddenly collapsed Shadow, her body slumping as exhaustion took its toll. Shadow reacted instantly, catching her before she could fall. Sonica’s medical training kicked in, and she immediately recognized who the ill person was. Stepping forward, she offered her assistance, suggesting a diagnostic to determine what was wrong with Maria.

Shadow, ever protective, refused her help, his distrust of Sonica evident. Sonic responded angrily at Shadow that this is not the best time to argue and that Maria needs medical attention. But Maria, weak yet determined, reassured Shadow. “It’s ok Shadow” she whispered softly, calming him down with her gentle words. After a brief moment, Shadow relented, stepping aside to allow Sonica to assist Maria.

With Maria’s consent, Sonica quickly began her analysis. She asked Maria about her symptoms, to which Maria responded with a sense of resignation. “I already know what I have, it's called NIDS” she said, her breath shallow and labored. Surprised by Maria’s calm knowledge of her own condition, Sonica asked, “You knew? Why didn’t you do anything about it?”

Maria let out a short, labored breath. “Because we don’t have a cure yet. My grandfather...he’s working on it.”

Sonica’s heart sank as the realization hit her like a ton of bricks. Knowing there is no cure for NIDS yet, Sonica finally realised she had been sent to the past—far past. Quickly, she asked, “What year is it?”

Maria’s voice was barely a whisper as she answered, “It’s 1947.”

Sonica was stunned. This was far more than just a strange rift in time—it was a leap over into the past, a time completely disconnected from the world she had known. She felt a pang of worry for her friends, hoping they were safe and still battling the threat Eggman had posed.

As she stood there, contemplating the gravity of the situation, Maria gently took her hand, pulling her from her thoughts. “You shouldn’t stay here in the open,” Maria said, her tone urging Sonica to follow her. “Let’s go to my room. We’ll be safe there from the other scientists.”

Sonica, still processing the enormity of what had just happened, agreed. For now, she had no choice but to temporarily provide her trust to Maria and follow her. As they moved deeper into the Ark, Sonica couldn’t help but wonder what the future held and if she would ever find a way back to her own time.

Until then, she will need to find a way to adapt into her new environment and these new people she meet.

The Adventures of Sonica the Hedgehog

AN INTRODUCTION

Terios and Aurora led a peaceful, ordinary life on Christmas Island, content in their simple existence. However, on a very rare occurrence that doesn’t usually happen, the Master Emerald’s powers leaked below to the land below Angel Island. Usually these occurrences are harmless and its power would only phase into the earth through newly born life to give it strength. However, while this occurrence happened, at the same time, Aurora became pregnant with their daughter, and since her conceiving is considered “New Life”, the power phased into the unborn child instead. Soon after, Aurora began to feel an unusual surge of energy—an overwhelming force that seemed to protect her from harm, no matter where she went or what danger might arise. This newfound power puzzled both her and Terios. It was unlike anything they had ever experienced before, but they chose to view it as a blessing, a sign that their child would be special, touched by something greater than themselves. Since then, the unborn child grew together with the power that was blessed to it.

As for naming their child, Terios and Aurora argued to name her either Aurelia or Sonica (Since Aurora wanted to share a similar name to Bernadette’s son Sonic as a sign of their connection and that Terios wanted her name to have a bit of similarity to his wife). They reached a decision to give both names to her and thus her name being Sonica Aurelia the hedgehog instead.

What they didn’t know, however, was that their quiet life had caught the attention of others. The Echidnas (The remnants of them that are off Knuckles’s clan), ever watchful and wary of forces that could threaten their sacred duty, had noticed the strange energy surrounding Aurora. They recognized the power she carried, sensing an eerie resemblance to the strength of their revered Master Emerald. The Echidnas grew cautious, aware that the unborn child could be a potential threat—or perhaps a key to something much larger than they could comprehend. Their eyes, ever vigilant, began to focus on the family, unaware of just how deeply the unborn Sonica would shape the future.

On the night of Sonica’s birth, a resounding power surge was released the moment Sonica was finally born. This infuriated the echidnas as they believed no one should be allowed to wield the power of the master emerald, concerning the tragedy that could repeat itself relating to the emerald’s powers, should the power fall to the wrong hands. They then decided to invade their home and take the child away. Terios refused to back down and fought off the echidnas and escaped with his wife and child. However, outnumbered and exhausted, Terios prayed that at least his child and wife are spared and that he’s willing to sacrifice himself to protect them. Since Sonica has the same powers as the Master Emerald, the prayers were heard and her cries became a prayer answered and granted Terios the ability to use chaos powers. As he gained these new powers, he fought off the Echidnas but it was not enough to stop them. As an act of desperation to save his family, he tore a dimensional rift and threw the echidnas into it, along with himself, trapping them in another dimension and ensuring the safety of his family should the echidnas try to force their way back to their dimension.

Sonica in turn grew up without knowing much about her father. The only thing she knew off was the stories her mother shared with her about her father’s sacrifice and how much he loved her but this unfortunately left her with a sense of strong longing for her father’s affection which in turn affected how she looked at herself. She in turn, was unable to look at her red eye as it reminded her too much of her father, this in turn made her hide it by wearing contacts instead, until she decided to reveal it to Shadow. She grew up becoming a very loving and strong willed hedgehog who fights injustice along with her cousin Sonic since they were only 8 years old. However, her powers are not fully matured at the time and she was not aware of what she’s truly capable off.

At the age of 10, Sonica awakened her chaos powers and was able to use unique chaos abilities such as Chaos lance, Chaos shield and Chaos heal. However, during this period, she lost her mother to an incurable disease called “Rheumatoid arthritis”. This inspired her to become a doctor that can cure any form of illness with her intelligence and also her miraculous chaos powers.

At the age of 12, Sonica became the youngest doctor / scientist ever to exist on Mobius and was able to cure many forms of illness that were considered incurable before her time. This also includes the disease Maria was suffering from called “NIDS - Neurological Immunological Deficiency Syndrome”. Her abilities in biology and chemistry made her famous and widely sought out when it comes to new discovered illnesses.

Though Sonica's appearance mirrored Sonic’s, her personality stood in stark contrast to his free-spirited nature. While Sonic was known for his carefree attitude, Sonica carried herself with a sense of responsibility and maturity far beyond her years. Her free-spiritedness was tempered with a thoughtful, grounded approach to life, and it was this blend of traits that separates her from Sonic.

Unlike Sonic, Sonica did not give her trust freely. She listened more than she spoke, watched more than she acted—quietly studying the hearts of those around her before deciding whether to let them close.  She did have her moments of joy, but they were gentler than her twin cousin’s brilliant flashes of energy. Her laughter was softer, her smiles slower to bloom. When she was carefree, it showed not as wild excitement, but as calm warmth—moments of reflection, of simple contentment that settled like sunlight.

Yet there was one thing she never hesitated over. When someone was hurt or fell ill, Sonica moved without question or doubt. Pain stripped away pretense, and suffering could not lie. To her, it was a sacred truth— “there is no falsehood in the face of pain or sickness.” And in those moments, her guarded heart opened fully, guided not by caution, but by compassion.

Sonica didn’t share Sonic’s remarkable ability to run at the speed of sound. She couldn’t match his pace in a race, however thanks to Maria’s and Dr Gerald Robotnik’s creation of the air shoes, Sonica was able to run faster than most. Her passion for knowledge and her love of quiet moments gave her a sense of purpose that was uniquely her own. Whenever she could, she would bury herself in research books, eager to learn more the signatures of life.

The quiet moments she treasured most, however, were those spent with Shadow. Together, they would sit in their favorite flower field, surrounded by lilies—flowers that held special meaning for both of them. In the stillness of the night, with only the soft rustle of the lilies in the breeze, Sonica would reflect on the memory of their dear friend Maria but also always remembering her late mother, Aurora. It was a place where the weight of the world seemed to fade, and they could find peace in their shared memories and quiet companionship.
